šenarre was not always the sadistic, cruel, and obsessive fanatic of the dark arts that he is today. Coming from humble beginnings, Venarre was born into the āVeenaā clan near to the snowy mountains of the Skatay Range. However, due to growing turmoil between his people and the neighboring city states at the time, he was given to a Doman noble by the wishes of his motherāwho happened to be traveling with their caravan nearby while in search of goods to bring back to the Doman capital. Less did she know, a much darker fate would await the people of Doma and her son...š¬s a result of his new guardianship and having been given away before his ācoming of age,ā as most viera are accustomed, Venarre had little regard for his birthplace or former culture; instead, acclimating fully to both Doman and Garlean ways of life. Being that Doma was now under Garlean Rule, Venarre was constantly surrounded by war and strife as the people of Doma were frequently at odds with their new government. Venarre was too young to know how Doma was like prior to its occupation, and thus did not hold the same sense of loss. He could not fathom the reasons behind such disorder, nor why the Doman people resisted so. Such scenes of woe and heartache plagued him from a young age in his inability to understand, but also fascinated him in ways his peers could not comprehend. The machinations often drifted about in the gallery of his mind, āWhom was in the right or wrong? To whom does justice reign? How are such decisions made, and if made, by who?ā Doma, being comprised of the dueling factions made being patriotic to either of them a most formidable affair. Thus, Venarre grew up enjoying both of the ideologies that which he so willfully fabricated, utilizing the two when necessary. āWhy suffer at the hands of either, when you could avoid such pain by simply turning your back and presenting a false truth?ā Growing up in such a social climate, he could neither empathize nor sympathize with the Domans. This unfortunate trait would evolve with him through the years, leaving him detached from his peers. In doing so he had very little friends, often being regarded as a 'two-faced snake.'šy the time he was sixteen Venarre enlisted into the Doman Guard, which was heavily influenced by the Garlean Empire. It was at this time, his then Captain, discovered Venarreās adept talent for manipulating aether. After careful consideration from his guardians, it was decided that Venarre would secretly train in various statures of battle to further his magical and physical abilities, as Garleans viewed poorly of those with a magical prowess. By and by, Venarre moved up the ranks and was able to freely travel between the Garlean Empire, Doma, and the outskirts of Eorzea as guard to the ambassador; often taking the position himself when tensions were high. What many did not know, was that he was more than a political soldier... he was an assassināgroomed by the Doman Guard and its people who longed for freedom. For Venarre, killing his marks was simply a job to be done to achieve this goal and playing both sides came all too easily with his social upbringing.šæwas during the rebellion that resulted in the death of Lord Kaien when Venarreās life would truly change forever. Having earned his rank and being comprised of a seemingly unshakeable loyalty to the Garlean Empire, he was ordered by Garlean officials to dispose of all those opposed to the regimeā this including his guardians, captain, battle mentor, and fellow guards who all shared in the attempted rebellion. Venarre had no plans to follow such orders. To kill those who blessed and offered him with such opportunities seemed impudent, going well against his dogma to respect authority and his belief that you only give what is due. While so many left him behind because of his nature, they alone stood by his side and gave him all that they could give. Why should he be the one to go back on his word, after all they had done? For once in his life, he could not flip a coin and merrily change sides nor put on a theatric display to ease his efforts and accomplish his goals. When confronted and forced to make the choice, he could not help but hesitate. The thought whispered against his better judgment, āIs it in my power to decide their fate?āšæaking notice of his hesitance the Garlean troops opened fire on the room of dissenters, much to Venarreās surprise. None but his captain remained, the last to die and Venarreās last chance to earn back the trust of the Garlean assembly behind him. His eyes transfixed on the corpses around him, blood sinking between the grooves of his boot. His guardians, nay⦠his family, dead. His fellow guards, dead. His mentor, dead. He stood affront his former master, his captain, the man who gave him his position and all the benefits that came with itāhis captain, the man who gave him purpose in a life where he could not understand the feelings of others nor even his own. Venarreās face remained un-phased yet unfathomable, time ticking in the bitter silence between them. Currents of muddled thoughts coursed within his mind as the stilled images of his dead companions and brothers in arms flashed before him. The Garlean troops asked again to whom he shows his true allegiance. Taking his rapier, Venarre raised the blade to his master. Turmoil, a feeling he had never felt before, churned behind his calm faƧade and still he waited. Knowing all too well of Venarreās strange inability to understand this morality, his captain made the choice for himāYou are bright and gifted. Your talents should not be wasted. So, put on your mask and live, two-faced snake.āšæhe confirmation was clear, unbeknownst to the Garleans standing idly behind. In the end of his life, his master still saw the same young boy freshly enlisted into the Doman Guardāunawares of his magical gifts. Venarre knew this, and for once he thought perhaps this was love and admiration for someone as he lunged forward rapier in hand. This puzzling ideation turned to knowing as the guilt then washed over him, his blade swiftly digging into and piercing his masterās heart. This moment would stay with him for a great portion of his life.š¬fterwards, Venarre would work under the empire for a time as the fate of Doma would later unfold; ranking high as 'Venarre sas Estrandel' under Lord Zenos. Though, despite the rank he was given, Venarre had no true loyalty to him. He had assumed Zenos had suspected as much, and rightfully so the prince had, but paid his obsidian-haired subordinate no mind. To the prince, Venarre was but one of many interests for his flawed ideology but ultimately not the primary source of his fixation. As lord Hien and his comrades began to put their plans into motion, they were quick to ask for the aid of an insider to help facilitate action. Who better than Venarre, former assassin and now high-ranking official to Lord Zenos himself? This came as a great opportunity for the coming of the new rebellion, much to the doubt of Yugiri. Not many knew what had happened on that night of bloodshed when Garlean soldiers massacred Doman officials and countless innocence. Yugiri was but one in a handful of fellow assassins that knew of Venarreās actions, and what they believed to be his betrayal.šÆespite Yugiri's skepticism, the plan went rather smoothly. Reminded of his youth, Venarre played both parts perfectly acting under the empire and soon to be Doman liberators. All the while he dabbled into the dark arts, seeking answers from a higher providence as to the many questions that hazed his mind. In doing so, he learned many things at the expense of his own mortality; his body slowly corrupting from the use of such forbidden magicās. This would later become an obsession as his fascination with higher powers and understanding the makings of man persisted in his thoughts. After the occupation of Zenos and his militants were dispelled Venarre would keep his title and become a general in his own right, now reigning over his own combatant assembly just outside Doma as power was shared among the kingdom so that no one man could lay claim over the other. As the warrior of light and their comrades continued their adventures and battles elsewhere, Venarre was content to stay and continue the fight against former imperial radicals or any who didn't align with his ideals; ideals, that he adapted from his communion with said dark powers. Knowing someday he would have to contend with similar adventurers and heroes for his own wanting desires, Venarre would utilize his tethers to the demons in league with him to spy on the warrior of light on their journeys. Like a raven watching from a branch unnoticed, he relished in the knowledge granted to him by seeing that which others would never know.š±urther and further, Venarre slips awayā¦a specter of the man he once was. His formerly stoic pride in authority is now a malefic obsession with ungodly creatures most are too fearful to contend with. Although he retains his composure on the outside, many have begun to notice some strange abnormalities in his behavior and appearance. Never being too brazen, he does well to keep his interests hiddenāsave for some rumors that he allows to roam free. Rumors, after all, hold no merit if there is no evidence to support them. Moreover, while stern and unnaturally gifted in his work, he is not misplaced in his position and formal duties in the Doman and Eorzean guard. While he finds the work amusing in itself, it acts mostly as a front for his true motives. Dislike and find fault in his methods many may have, they cannot deny he performs his role flawlessly. With one foot in the shadows, he continues to dabble in the dark arts while anonymously in league with the cult and other niche factions across the world; his influence touching upon even shores the esteemed warrior of light has yet to explore. His craving for knowledge and political gain from all corners of the globe knows no equal. Artifacts adorned in cryptic runes from a forgotten time amass in his keep. Powers and poisons grow in abundance as he collects for reasons unknown to us. Does a sliver of his morality remain, or is he truly lost to us forever? Curiosity, as it turns out, can be a sinister affair...

| The Arcane Guild |Comprised of those who dabble in all manner of magical practices, the Arcane Guild encompasses all the guilds who specialize in the arcane; namely the thaumaturge, red mages, blue mages, arcanists, and minuet group of conjurers. While not an official Guild created by those in power for this purpose, fellow mages came together to establish the group in the hopes it would allow for an easier disperse of knowledge in their fields. Much to their astonishment, the Guild has grown exponentially. While those confined to their specific jobs have only a limited number of resources, the Arcane Guild provides an endless expanse of knowledgeāoften forbidden. However, despite the mysterious nature of its denizens, they do not seek harm. There is a number of rules its members must abide by, including the use of darker magic's for ill-purpose.
Venarre, who was once formerly invited to join, is now one of its leading members. It was here he furthered his research on the dark arts and on occasion, presented his own teachings, though rare they may be. Of course, heās never revealed the true extent of his findingsā¦...| Transformative and Masquerade magicās |It is not uncommon for those who dabble in the dark arts to grow horns or other superficial side effects. Venarre is no exception. Most wear their horns with pride, and indeed had Venarre had the freedom of choice he certainly would. However, given his position, he knows fully well the stigma against those who perform in the dark arts. To remedy this, Venarre spent a great deal of time learning masquerade magic to conceal his horns at will; so not to disrupt his plans. The same cannot be said for his arms, both of which continue to corrupt as his use of black magic continues. Potions and other remedies seem to still the progression, for now....| When did Venarre first get into the cult? |Venarreās first actual experience with the dark arts and summoning demons came shortly after the death of his captain and companions. While he had practiced as a summoner in his younger years, his mentor forbade him from dealing with demons or engaging with malefic magic. Summoning demons and summoning beasts approved by the arcanist guild were two vastly different subjects. It wasnāt until after their death he felt compelled to truly explore the vast arcane now that he had no one to restrain him. Soon after he would anonymously join the cult to further his studies on the matter.
| Venarreās Childhood |As any Viera would tell you, a Vieraās childhood is a troubling thing. Born androgynous until a later age, Viera children generally enjoy the company of their mothers until puberty. Depending on whether the child is differed as a male or female, the child will either leave with another male to be taught under their guidance or continue to stay with their mother in an all-female clan. Venarre having been adopted by Domanās would never undergo this integral part of his former culture. Unfortunately for him, the Domanās knew very little on the culture of the Viera and his guardians in particular did not know how to raise such a child. Still, they did what they could and raised him under no specific genderāthough, his adoptive father would later bless the coming of a son. Until then, Venarre was seen as an oddity from his peers; ridiculed for their lack of understanding and often a target of bullying. His shaping political beliefs did not aid him in this regard, which further estranged him from other children. When Venarre was discovered to be male, such treatment based on his physicality lessened.
All in all, Venarre was a quiet child. He was well spoken and well read. He never showed any outward resentment to his peers, nor cried when he was physically hurt or taunted by them. There were times he would ask his adoptive mother as to why he was the way he was, which came out as terribly blunt; and he seemed unscathed by the severity of such words. It is hard to say whether the treatment he endured in his childhood inflicted any lasting repercussions, or if he was truly unaffected by them as his aloof nature would suggest....| Chaurliegne Esturna |Over the course of his many years enlisted in the Arcane Guild, Venarre has gained the admiration of many for his magical giftsāand if not admiration, then surely the respect demanded of his abilities. Yet, even with his compatriots wrapped around his finger there are bound to be some who refuse to be seduced. Chaurliegne Esturna, a lesser-known mage who specializes in the dark arts, does not take kindly to the esteemed lord. Instead, he finds him both hypocritical and condescending; offended by his āoverzealousā visual displays and what he believes to be a misuse of black magic. The two never got along, though Venarre views him as little more than a speck on the wall rather than an adversary. Should Venarre make a single misstep, Esturna would be the first to act as both his judge and jury.
